Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats Blog - Triplets born - New baby pics

Hi Mitzi - yes, I will be keeping Confetti's kids. I'm not sure who Cindy bred her with but I know she picked a buck that wasn't related to the ones I already have so that I can start breeding my own herd and I know she told me it had champions in it's line also so with both parents having champion bloodlines, they should be good kids.

I spoke with Cindy the other day. She called to check on them. She said you had come out and would be getting a kid from her soon. She is so sweet, she insisted that she gives me another doe kid in the spring to make up for all the trouble and expense of Bitsy. She said she had charged me full price for Bitsy and now she will always be a pet and not breeding stock or a milker. I told her she didn't have to do that but she feels she must so I didn't argue too much. I would love to have a baby kid in the Spring. Cindy is such a wonderful, kind and helpful person - she really loves her goats. I kept thinking she was going to ask to have Confetti back. I know she didn't really want to part with her. She did say maybe we could do the show circuit together sometime - so who knows.

That is a stunning goat herd one day I hope I can have a nice little herd like you but instead of nigi's (my hands are two big to milk them

) I want toggenburgs I have been in love with the breed since I met them at Cherry Glen farm here in Maryland. I can't wait to start a herd once I get my own place and start making cheese and selling milk and other things.

No but it's probably something she still has because she told me she would have to pull the paper work and check the dates and call me back. She thought they didn't "do it" till closer to the end of their time together but says her DH is now telling her he thought he saw them "do it" near the beginning. She is meticulous with record keeping and has binders and files on all 75 goats so I'm sure she has whatever record it is. But, how do you know when something took if they were together 4-5 weeks?

You watch and hope to notice. As you can see by all the months in the due dates section of my kidding schedule...you don't always catch them. Usually though it's pretty hard to miss unless you're gone from the barn a lot.

You should go ahead and ask her to mail you the memorandum so you have all your paperwork in order.

That’s awesome that she is giving you a kid in the spring because of your problems with Bitsy. She did tell me that she regretted selling Confetti…and that she told you that if you ever wanted to sell her she would buy her back. I just love that brown and white pinto color. I am looking forward to seeing pictures of her kids.

I do hope that I will be able to buy one from Cindy…you are right she is very nice and helpful but I have talked to another breeder too. I was not confident that Cindy would “for sure” have a doe kid because she only has two does due to have kids mid December. Her other does are not due until late January and I do not want to wait that long for Bella’s sake. Being that there is no guarantee that she will have does in December I felt I needed to have another source. I also want a brown and white kid…and I would like blue eyes if possible. I know I am being picky but I am only getting 2 does with the possibility of a third later own so I want to make sure I get what I want. I don’t have room for a large herd…just enough for 2 or 3. I sure do wish I had room for more. The other breeder that I am talking to is in Mississippi. They ran a Grade A dairy for years…they have since sold the dairy business and down sized but still have a nice size herd of Nigerians. She has some brown and white spotted does due to kid mid December with the possibility of blue eyes.

I also have to tell you this…it was so funny. The other day I saw that a friend of mine that lives down the road has two Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats. I had not talked to her since June so I called and asked her when she got them. She said that her daughter’s boy friend gave them to her daughter in August for her birthday and guess what…They got them from Cindy! I am going to go see them this week.

I went and pulled the paperwork she gave me with Confetti and there is a "Service Memo" in there that says Doe "Bluff Creek DK Confetti" was bred to Buck "Lost Valley KW Sequoia" - Date of Service 7/28/08 - 8/25/08

Now you know you're talking to someone who knows NOTHING about goat registry and pedigree and only bought registered Nigerians because they were small and cute and all the BYC people like yourself are serious enablers?

I have no idea what all the *S and 2*D VG mean that are on her pedigree record. I do know Cindy told me she had already won two Junior Champions and one Grand Champion but the Grand Champion got overturned because she put the tatoo number down with numbers transposed. Cindy really wants me to show her but I don't ever foresee having time for that - but then never say never.

She came highly recommended, even by other goat breeders, as having the best and having the healthiest. I had so many people warn me about getting goats from anyone else around. There's a lady in nearby Jackson, LA, that owns the feedstore, and we were there last weekend talking to her. She also raises goats but the LaManchas and something else. She's someone I also talked to before buying goats. She again reminded me that if I were to ever add to my herd to only get them from Cindy since no one else around could be trusted. Of course, if I want to add larger goats, she has some and will have kids in the spring.

If anyone else is looking to buy goats, this lady's name is also Cindy and she has the feed store in Jackson, LA and has been raising goats for almost 30 years.
