Nigerian Dwarf still birth

I'm new to goats and suspected one of my nigerian dwarfs might be pregnant. I got the answer this evening when I went to take care of them for the night. She had three dead babies with one still hanging out of her. She hadn't removed the sack from any of them, but in looking at them, I thought they looked awfully small. After coming inside, I got on youtube and watch a birth or two to see... ours were way too small and so were born way too early. I wonder if the male head butted her into a miscarriage...??? If not, then what was the issue.

Also, more of concern right now is her health. What do I need to do for her? Any help here is very much appreciated.

So sorry to hear about your animals. I would definitely call the vet. I think getting a full work up is in your best interest to make sure your doe is ok.

Did you know she was pregnant? It was the whole process a surprise?

There are a whole lot of reasons goats miscarry. Nutrition and disease are two of the bigger considerations. It could have been many, many things.

If you had exposed her to a buck and are working on breeding her than it’s a good idea to ensure that there was no damage. It also may give you some foresight as to her abilities to kid successfully. I wouldn’t just give the buck free access to her in the future as that makes it hard to determine due dates. Exposing her during heat and then assessining her after should allow you to determine if it took.

It very well could have been the buck ramming her and it could have been a fluke. If you would do it for a dog i wouldn’t hesitate to get the vet involved. You will feel better about moving forward with some more expert insight.
