So, my 8 week old pullets have been in their coop & run for about two weeks now. They finally started going into the coop at night on their own once I put a light in the coop for them before dusk. I don't want to mess with their circadian rhythm, but prior to their night light, they wouldn't go in the coop on their own. Any suggestions on how long to keep using the light? We don't have electricity in the coop, so it would be hard to put a light on a timer.

I use it for 2 or 3 days. They usually will go in before dark. I have raise 1000's and have to use a light so I do not have to go out and collect 100 or so chicks to put to roost, but in about 3 days----lights are not used anymore. My chicken coops is 1/2 mile from electricity----Most of the chick pens I use a small flash light for 2 or 3 nights----replacing the batteries a couple times. Works good.

I use a $1 led solar powered stake light in one window. It only shines about 1 hours past dark since the window faces east, and it only gets charged by direct sunlight a few hours early in the morning. IT's just right for us.
