Night light?

I'm a total noob, and was wondering this myself for winter. Can I just leave an incandescent bulb on for light and supplemental warmth at night, or do chickens, like plants, need a certain amount of darkness?

Chickens don't need a night light, they don't get up during the night to go to the bathroom... they just go.
