Before I start the original idea was that the chickens would live in the coop and run. This hasn't happened as they like the garden so much they only go in the run when I cruelly make it rain (it's my fault of course). Now on my night shifts (I work 184 days a year,so with the 24days holiday that means its roughly 82 night shift a year)they have to go in the run at 5pm, now they get their favourite treat but one will always not go in, it's not the same one there seems to be a rota on who does it on which day so the cream legbar does Monday the big black and white girl on Thursday etc. how do the little feather brains work that one out and how daft do you feel chasing a hen round the garden, they normally let me pick them up, when you look up and see your neighbour looking out of his window laughing his head off!!!!!!,!

I have spent a lot of time chasing chickens, too. Lately it has gotten a little better because most of my hens have decided they want the treat that I throw in the run.

Mine are pretty good about coming in for a treat. But there's always one stubborn one. For that one, I have a spray bottle filled with water. They HATE that thing. I just move so I'm behind them and I don't try and hit them but just shoot some spray in the direction of their behind and that always gets them moving.

Might give that a try. I'm also fortunate in that my yard is long and narrow and sort of funnels them down to their run where their only option is to go back inside.
