I am eagerly awaiting my first ever batch of chicks!! I ordered day-olds from a very reputable breeder in our area - 12 Buff Brahma (standard) and 6 White Silkies. I have always wanted chickens and have dragged my hubby into more poultry barns at fairs than he cared to see! Last year I decided to take an extended hiatus from horses and with a little coaxing and a lot of planning and research - here I am. Hubby built me the most beautiful coop (this is apparently my 15th anniversary gift) and I hope to post some pictures in the next few days once I figure everything out. I have lots of "chicken support" at work with friends who have chickens so I think I'm ready.......can't wait!

and congrats on the upcoming chicks! Good choice on the brahma's!

I have a light brahma, and when I get more brahma's I will be getting buff. I just love their looks and temperament. And they are great layers too.

Prepare to be addicted! I started out Feb of last year with 7 chickens, and now I'm up to 29 chickens.
