Nipple waterer for day old chicks?

Has anyone had success getting new chicks to use a nipple waterer? I have a new batch of chicks coming in next week and I was hoping to use the existing nipple system I have in the brooder now from the last group, but am unsure if a young chick will understand how to use it right off the bat.

I used it with my just-arrived chicks. The lever is shiny so they pecked and figured it out within an hour's time. I did put a dish of water in there so they could get a drink right away and then didn't take it out until I'd observed the party going on at the chicken nipple. I think it's easier to start when they're young rather waiting and risking letting them get set in their ways.
