nipple waterer question

I would guess that depends on the nipple brand/system you are using.

Most of the catalogs/web sites I have checked out specify what is required. If you know the brand, I would contact them with your question.

The level of the water in the bucket must be at least 2" higher than the top of the PVC pipe at the highest nipple. If the PVC pipe is level or not.

The level of the water in the bucket could be as much as 30" above the lowest nipple on the system. If the PVC pipe is level or not.

General rule of thumb- maintains the water level in the reservoir as high as you can without the nipples flowing more water than the birds can drink. The way to determine this is by observing the condition below the nipples.
Do not confuse the wet results of high pressure with nipples that are to high or low and not letting the bird drink properly (for a nipple drinker).

Remember also that small particles in the water can get lodged in the nipple and cause a slow leak and a mess. So keep sediment particles out of the nipple line.

22 PSI ? Something is wrong.

I'm hooking up directly to my water line which also feeds the house. Mine isn't for a gravity flow system. I have to use a pressure reducing valve to lower the pressure.

QC Supply has the best price and shipping rate. The brand was not specified but they looked like the ones from FarmTek that are suited for a gravity flow system.
I'll come out of the bottom of the bucket, to an elbow, to the line and set the bucket as high as I can. I'll also plan to put a lid on it. Will this cause vacuum issues? The nipples are on backorder till 8/25. I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks for the feedback!

Why don't you just bore a clean hole in the bucket and plumb the water to the PVC pipe with 1/4" tubing. No fittings in the bucket and you can then put the drinker lline virtually anwhere.

Do you know that you need no more than one nipple drinker for each ten quail?

My expereince with nipple drinkers-
Have about 1,000 quail on them myself.
I own half a broiler farm with about 28,000 nipples
I have probably sold 2 million nipple drinkers for poultry in the last 30 years.

This is my first shot at quail and watering systems. I wanted 2 nipples per pen (4-5 quail per pen) just in case something went wrong. Still not comfortable not being able to see the water. Tubing will make things much easier. Thanks again and again. QC Supply called and offered a substitution. They have great customer service but if had had known you sell them...
