nipple waterer question

I would install the nipple drinker and allow them to play with it for a few days while the old water system was in place.

Remove the old watering device from their presence for an increasing amount of time each day for a week to ten days finally removing it altogether.

Expect at least a slight reduction in egg production or growth for a few days.

They will always prefer drinking out of a pool of water over a nipple. But once acclimated to nipples they will do just fine.

If you are worried about hurting their feelings, causing them to hate you, or becoming unpleasant because you are not catering to them don't even try. Raise kittys.

My opinion is to make sure the nipples are above their heads. They seem to always be inquisitive and peck on objects higher than their heads. Once they know water comes out, they will drink and all of the others will follow suit.

Hey you experts on nipple waterers... can anyone share a simple solution for heating a simple bucket-style nipple waterer?

I would love to switch to bucket-style nipple waterers, but our water will freeze in the winter if it is not heated. Before "reinventing the wheel" myself, I wonder if anyone has a solution to offer.

I would very much like to use all of the leftover rectangular cat litter buckets with nipples added.

I'm in Central FL so it's not an issue for me. In the chicken pages they talk about using aquarium heaters and bubblers as well as bird bath heaters. Do you have power out there?
