We've used a bucket with nipples inside the coop. When I added the run, we used a more traditional waterer in the run. I have to say the first thing the hens do in the morning when they get out of the coop is run to the waterer and drink like there's no tomorrow. Given the choice, I'd say they definitely have a preference for the traditional waterer. They'll use the nipple waterer (and they do and it works great), but they'd prefer the other. Unfortunately for them, I get to make the choice and the nipple waterer stays!!
