Nipple Waterer

I originally put mine in the coop with regular water dispenser. The girls didn't want anything to do with it. I just finished my run and put the bucket with the nipples and they couldn't resist it. The first one pecked at it and they all came over to check it out. Now they all drink out of it.
I still keep the other water dispenser in the coop because I have a 'physically challenged' hen and she stays in the coop and she is able to reach this dish. She wouldn't be able to reach the bucket waterer.

My four one week olds figured it out within a minute. They are so curious they'll peck at anything, and the shiny metal thing is a real draw lol. Of course as soon as one got it they all ran to see what was going on

The head hen of our flock was hand raised by me.

Mercedes came over to the nipple waterer when I called her doing "bok bok bok bok bok bok" sound that the momma hens do to call babies over to show them stuff. I called her over and tap tap tapped on the water nipple with my finger, so she could see the and smell the water there, and she started pecking where I did and figured out how to work the nipple.

Once she did, she showed everyone else in the flock. Easy easy

I have such good chookies!!

Good for your girls! I was a basket case 2 weeks ago when I was teaching my ladies about the bucket, it was 90 degrees out and I was so worried they weren't getting it. I took their old water dish out at night and left it out until about noon for 4 days before I attempted all day. Everyone survived, I think they're smarter than we give them credit for!
