I have the nipple waterer inside our coop, and the chickens do know how to use it, I see them working on it every morning as I am walking out to open the coop. However, as soon as I open the coop door they ALL rush out like mad-chickens...and rush over to the regular watering thingie I have hanging outside the coop, and they all drink like they are thirsting to death. Any ideas?

Thanks for the quick response! I have 3 nipples for 11 birds. I"m not sure what you mean by "are they blocked?" They are all very accessible, if that is what you mean. I will try removing the other waterer as soon as the weather cools a bit. We are in middle GA, so still pretty hot during the day. Will be Sept. or Oct. before we get to mid 70s in the afternoon.

I have 6 hens and 3 nipple waterers...I Love them because their water stays clean and fresh.. I know mine are getting plenty of water, I fill all 3 of them up every night.. I use 2 liter bottles for a 3 waterers..

CC- I hear you I'm in N FL so it'll be a little later before it's that cool here... I thought it was 3 chicken per nipple, is it really 4 per nipple- does it very by manufacture?

Are they far enough apart that the head chicken can't guard them preventing the others from drinking?

My roos will chase the hens back to the roost if they get off at night. He thinks he's protecting them.

Also how much light is in there before you let them out, they don't have night vision.

(like the wives tales of turkeys starving to death if dark grain silos ... doubt that ever happened- besides they would mess the grain)

;)
