Nipple waterers

Looking for some good ideas on making a nipple waterer that will be gravity fed from either a 5 gallon bucket or a plastic drum of some sort. Thought about buying the water system pre made and just adding the bucket. Or would it be better to build from scratch. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Assuming you have the tools (drill, bit, saw etc) I think building from scratch would allow you to design the waterer exactly for your needs and your coop. For me there is also the satisfaction of doing it myself and knowing how it works. Instructions and designs are readily available on BYC and YouTube.

Easy easy to make. No need to buy it premade. Save yourself the cash (and spend it on something worthwhile, like chicken treats). Like tymimo said, plans are everywhere.

I made a nipple water system. I installed two nipples in a 36 inch length of 3/4" pvc with a male hose connector on one end and a hose bib on the other. I took a 5 gallon plastic bucket and installed a hose bib in the side about an inch from the bottom to keep trash out of the system.. I connected this with a washing machine hose. (female on both ends)

I mounted the pipe at a location convenient for the chickens and within reach of a place to mount or set the bucket.

The hose bib on the pipe is to be able to drain it for some reason. With the hose bib on the side of the bucket, the bucket can be hung or seated on a stand.

The bucket is outside the coop and run, so that you don't have to go inside to replenish the water or clean it.

All you need is the bucket and nipples. drill holes in the bottom of the bucket. put it on a platform of some sort.
I do the same thing with gallon mayo jars too for small pens of chickens.
