Nite Guard

They have gone way up in price since I bought mine. I agree Christmas lights would be great & cheaper but will need electricity so for me, cords would be running everywhere & be very inconvenient. My main run is too large so electric lighting was not practical or really possible (don't know how I'd do it). Since these are solar powered, all you have to do is put them out. No cords, no batteries. Very easy, very convenient.

Spend your money on an electric fence. I had one on my roof. Raccoon ripped it off. I have guard donkeys and they repel ground preditors, but the coons drop from the trees onto the coop. I haven't lost one since I installed the electric fencing.

I have to say I have been using NIte Gaurd for almost 2 years and have had no problems. Also we have extreme winters here in MT and have never had to replace any of the units. We see fox, raccoon, coyotes out in the fields, but they never come in the yard. I highly recommend it.

I am not sure they would be any help in Alaska, Summer all daylight, winter no daylight. Not sure it could store enough power to be of any use.

I have 2 dogs that keep most things out of the yard. Covered Run (owls, Hawks) and when winter fully hits a regular light bulb to light the run during the daytime.

Dogs! Although, it does take some time to get used to sleeping with the barking, and then learning the difference between the "get away from my house" bark & the "hey dogs down the street, SHUT UP already would ya??" and the "SOMETHING IS HERE!! COME QUICK WITH THE GUN" barks

I have 2 full time outdoors with full access to my coop perimeters. We have had a raccoon recently eating out of our compost lately, but he stays outside the yard fence (where the compost is) he wouldn't dare come inside the fence with my dogs ready to kill him, heck he's been so scared before he tree'd himself even though they couldn't get that close!

DH chased him out for 5 nights.. stalking him through the woods away from our property... he hasn't been back in a couple of nights.. hopefully our place is just too much trouble.
