NJ chick buying law???

not such a bad idea- I found out today that a lady I know went to TSC yesterday and bought her chicks..if I had known I could have added to her order.

Oh yes, I have a list of states with stupid laws in the books that just have never been changed. I should find the list, it is pretty funny. One that comes to mind is you cannot walk the city streets with a crocodile in your shirt.

Yea, another one they talked about was that you can't let a donkey sleep in your bathtub. Hmmmm Would like to hear the story behind that law. LOL

Arkansas law also requires you purchase 6 chicks (which is the number I wanted anyway) there is also a law forbidding dying chickens for Easter.

I assume both laws are to prevent people from getting a cute Easter chick and then not actually taking responsibility for the bird as it grows up, and to discourage people from selling baby chicks like this.
I do think it's a little weird if your city limits you to 4 hens, but ours doesn't.

Well when I went to TSC 5 or 6 weeks ago they told me that TN state law requires you to buy 6 ducks, chicks, etc. I wanted 6 anyway, no problem.

But I went to three local feed stores and they said that it wasn't TN state law, it was a TSC thing. I could go in and buy 1 chick if I wanted to.

I watched several people go in and buy 1 or 2 chicks or ducklings with no problems.

Our TSC had a printout of the AR laws.

Perhaps since it is the law in some states, rather than keep track, TSC just made it their general policy in all states??
