hi all,

We have a new in incubator and have 24 eggs inside, 12 silkie, 6 RIR and 6 Plymouth Rock.

day 21 started about 19hrs ago, we had 3 RIR bust open half way through day 20 within 2 hours or eah other and since then, nothing... not a pip... After the first three came out so strong we thought we were in for a big day, but now we are getting more and more worried no more will hatch...

Is it common to have such a large gap between hatchings?

The three that hatched are already in the brooder and still no movement in the incubator...

Try not to worry as you are still only on day 21. There is still time for the others to make an appearance. I’m afraid each chick is individual and they often don’t all hatch at the same time. I’ve found this especially to be true if I’ve got different breeds hatching.

Has your incubator been pretty even on the temp? Sometimes hot spots can cause eggs to hatch a little earlier than others.

Thanks, still no more movement, its now gone 2 hrs into day 22...

Don't think there would be any hot spots, but unsure as its the first time using this incubator... if any more hatch then that's prob likely.

Is day 24 the point where you give up on the eggs?

fingers crossed they decide to make an appearance in the next 24hrs...

Hey Hey, Good morning! Yorkshire Coop makes a good point, each chick is individual. I often forget that when I look at a dozen eggs. I'm younger than a spring chicken when it comes to keeping a backyard flock and hatching eggs, and all ya'll at BYC have been so helpful. Captain Crunch, I empathize with you completely, I am at day 20 on my third incubation cycle anxiously awaiting the first pip. I know of no definite termination date. Your question opens the field for an interesting conversation... maybe even a contest. There are "Hatch-A-Longs", "Easter Hatches", "New Years' Day Hatch -A-Long" and on and on the list goes. How about the "OH My! I Just About Missed The Boat Hatch-A-Long" or maybe the "Final Runner Up Hatch-Along?" Thoughts anyone?
