He's a wyandotte and no signs of lice or mites. I treat regularly to make sure as well. Hopefully they grow back after a molt! I'm going to have to buy him a sweater

Just using DE and lavendar and/or mint in the coop.

This will not deter pests...look closer at the birds skin to be sure that's not the problem.

If he actually has poor feather quality, don't hatch any of his eggs, because it's a heritable trait. Some birds just have this problem. if it's mites or lice, or something temporary, fine.
