No biggy just curious

Hi! I've been watching my chickens... they are 7-10 weeks... and very interesting! I'm trying to figure out the pecking order- purely for interest. I have two dorkings who typical to their breed are docile. I then have RIR and RIRxSUSSEX they are bossy! Today I checked on them and they were roosting... is this a sign of the pecking order... being the Red are higher?

Never thought of that. My new or young birds always sleep off to the side or on their own for the first few weeks. Like they aren't allowed in the group yet. So roosting might be some sort of social thing? Or might just be that's where they prefer to sleep. Haha It's cool to think about.

My roost is all on the same level. But my rooster always lets his favorite girls roost beside him lol.

They're so interesting to watch aren't they! This is the first time I've seen them roost as they usually all sleep in a small area on the ground huddles up. But as they're growing they are changing. I spend way to much time observing! Addicted to my chooks!

Red Birds are known for being more aggressive towards other Birds of another colour...Keep an eye on them as they mature...Lots of times Docile Breeds cant be with more aggressive Birds....

I hope they can all get on the dorkings are absolutely beautiful girls, and yes the reds are brutes! They are already doing the chest bump to each other (the two reds) So far there has been no direct aggression, but I will watch closely, thankyou [

I know if I go outside at night when they're hopping up to go to bed there's a lot of nudging and pecking going on. We have 2 roosts and they all tend to crowd to one side even though it's ~8' long. I recall reading somewhere that the dominant birds roost higher, but Olive is always on the higher roost and wants to be all the way to the right, but her 2 other girls are usually over there fighting over the same spot. Olive is always the first one up on the roost when it starts getting dark. Then my heavier dual purpose birds are on the lower rung, but 2 of them sleep on the edge of a couple nesting boxes b/c one does fly/jump very well & the other hurt her leg recently. I away get the feeling when they're ranging that my 2 amber browns are higher up b/c they peck at the others when they're eating. I've attached a horribly blurry picture, but I've gotten the feeling that the 3 on the top roost aren't dominant, but there's a lot of space on that branch so the others that are dominant may be more towards the middle of the coop.
