No chicken coop

hi everyone, my coop is being built but I found a pullet that I am really wanting to buy today. Is it possible to keep a pullet without a coop. Two or 3 weeks tops? Thanks or your input

As long as there are no predators around or you have a safe place and a bowl for food and water-and if she lays egss she need a good place for that too.

i had a pullet when I was shifted. she stayed in the house for two days and free ranged about a month .she was familiar to me and came back at sun set .but to new pullets u would have to lock her in a box or in a cage something like that. she would be fine in. goodluck

Thank you. That is great to hear. I have been looking for a buff Orpington and finally found one but I have no coop. ( we just put our order in with a local builder)

Also, will I be able to make them more tame ? It doesn't look like they have had much human contact

In my experience it is difficult to tame them if they have not been raised that way. If you really want tame ones, why don't you order some baby chicks?

I picked up a buff Orpington and an EE pullet but they are acting crazy and terrified. Maybe I will try and sell them so I can replace them with baby chicks

Well, if you've had the chickens mere hours, you really need to give them time to settle down. I'd be all freaked out, too! Time meaning like weeks. They aren't puppies and won't be hand tamed in a few hours, or even days.

What about putting her in a dog crate at night in the house or on your porch?

you can also make a very nice safe portable chicken pen with a dog wire expen that is easy to move around the yard from day to day - use netting to zip tie over the top so predators can't get in and the pullet can't get out. You can also get those plastic electric fence stakes and use chicken wire to build a temp yard for confining and keeping safe during the daytime.

I am hyper sensitive though as I had chicken hawks get 5 of my 6 pullets - now no more free Range for me
