Hello, My wife and I joined because we want to learn about keeping chickens. We have started leading healthy lives and want clean. We know that chicken farms are extremely unsanitary and want to have a small starter flock of our own. If the bird is healthy and happy, the eggs will be healthy! We live in Southwest Texas (on the border west of San Antonio) and it gets HOT, and I think that might be an issue. Any advice would be appreciated. We are looking forward to learning and having a small (3-4) flock of our own.

go to "Where am I, where are you," in the social forum - you can locate and post on your state thread. People in your area can give you the best information on handling the climate, what breeds do best under those conditions, etc.

Check out the Learning Center, it is the best place to start. and

Welcome to the Flock! I can't help you with the HOT area of the country and chicken keeping as its always so FREAKING cold here. Hey, if you want to know about -20F I have some ideas for that. hehehe
