My husband and I have been removed to Virginia with my son & his wife who has a "farm". She has probably 9 roosters and the hens are not enough to go around let alone enough to proportion properly. She has lost her first love, and all she does is scatter some corn & feed twice daily. So, we "inherited" the chickens, and I get so sick of hearing the roosters all day long. Their behavior is very interesting, however, and I get a lot out of watching "the chicken channel", as well as "the duck channel" and "the goat channel". I am 79 and don't know much at all about barn-yard animals.

Welcome to BYC! I too love watching my own "chicken channel", it's like a soap opera that takes place in my yard. Too many roosters can be a real headache, and I sympathize. Can you reduce the rooster numbers by giving away or culling a couple of the least favorites?

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Glad you have commercial-free TV. We love it too!

I feel badly about the rooster population though. Could you check with the neighbor farmers to see if anyone would want a few? If not, maybe take a picture of a couple of the prettiest ones, print up some half-page "ads", attach a picture to it, and post on the bulletin boards in town.

Just one suggestion. You said she throws corn and feed twice a day to them. They really should have more feed, and very little corn. Changing the ratio a little would make them a bit healthier.

We're glad you're here!
