Yeah, that was posted while I was writing mine. I didn't see it until after I'd submitted.....

I also vote for male. I have a 20 week old rooster right now who has never said a peep. The last rooster I raised from a baby was around 6 months (24 weeks) before he started to crow.

Thank you guys for all your advice. It's been really helpful. Yes I am having a pet sitter come, so hopefully it will be fine. I am leaving tomorrow, so I need to pack. But I will post a picture of her tonight, or early tomorrow.
Thanks again.

Ok, So here is a picture of Midnight, [my french copper maran] I took this today. So shes 16 weeks. The only hope I have that shes not a rooster is the spur, or something. What is that??? Is it supposed to look like she has another nail on the back of her foot?

Sorry, the pointy saddle (right in front of the tail) and hackle (neck) feathers, large red comb, and overall coloration all scream roo. 100% roo. Spurs do not a rooster make... Hens can have spurs too (they'll look like a long pointed nail growing on the inside of the leg an inch or two above the foot). All chicks will have spur buds whether they are male or female.

Sorry but that's the most roostery chicken I've seen today. =) 1000000% boy. =(

As for the crowing, I've had roos not crow until 6-7 months. Like the person above me said, the long shiny drapey feathers over the rear end are rooster saddle feathers. There's no chance at all that that's a girl.

That is a rooster. No hope at all of it being a hen. None, nada, zero, zip.

As far as it not coming off the roost, do you have another rooster? Or the hens could be bullying it. But really, I've never had a bird starve itself to death. If you're that concerned, find a place to seperate it from the other birds with it's own food and water while you're gone.
