No crow collars

I have read several threads on this but have to ask myself. Do these work? Any bad experiences? I have a really great looking ameraucauna rooster that really likes to crow (I love it too) but we are about to temporarily move to a place that doesn't allow roosters. I really like this guy and don't want to get rid of him for a place I will only live for a month or two till we get back out to the country.

I am interested as well... We are renovating a farmhouse with acreage and living elsewhere (neighborhood with large lots....roosters "allowed", but there is a noise ordinance... - at least that is my understanding.) This is a temporary situation.... We have chickens at both locations, with crowing roosters generally moved to the farmhouse, but for various reasons we have a "crower" at the house in the neighborhood. Our temporary solution is to bring him in at night (dog crate in laundry room). He rarely crows during the day, and the neighbors do not mind, as it is infrequent and we have large lots.... But if he was bothered at night, and crowed... People would be unhappy. With that said, we are very quiet and careful if we get up for a drink of water... and he has been known to crow for "unknown reasons" indoors in the middle of the night.

If the collar works and is safe and humane, we would be interested....

Me too. I have silkies which could go either way and my peep peeps are with me till the die of old age. So any roo will need to be controlled as I'm also in a hoa for now.

I live in an urban area and though we are zoned for roosters having neighbors so close it was easier to get a collar to keep the peace at 5am. (and 6 and 7 and 8... you get the idea). My experience so far has been egg-cellent. He has been wearing it for about 3 weeks and he has been very quiet, making all his other usual sounds, going about his business, just no crowing.
It took me about a week to get it just right, at first I just put it on loose enough so he could get used to is and then gradually tightened it until I had about a pinky width of space. He is only 19 weeks so I do check it regularly to make sure it isn't getting too tight as he grows.

our friends use one for their rooster and they like it. you have to watch for crop impaction since you have to synch it up pretty snug to really work. If we get a rooster I will be looking for a vet to do the decrow surgery since we have very close neighbors on all sides, one in particular with a sound studio.

It sounds like it's basically just a velcro strap

Really that's all it is. I think its more a personal choice to either use velcro or buy a collar. I chose to get the collar because it does have mesh to make it a bit more flexible and just seems like it might be more comfortable than a stiff piece of velcro.

Does it actually stop them from crowing or jut lessen the noise? I am breeding and will have several more rooster than I do now. A little less crowing in the am would be great.
