No Crow Rooster collar

I have tried both No Crow and Cock Collars a couple years ago.

No Crow will choke your rooster when they eat. Mine haven't died from this thankfully.

Cock Collars worked better but my roosters eventually learned how to take it off.

So I just don't have roosters. I'm still on the edge if they're 'cruel' or not. Luck to those who try them though.

I use just a kids sock or Velcro collar for my roosters (pretty close to the no crow). I love it. I've always liked my roosters and their crows more then hens but since I moved into a town, one that doesn't allow chickens to begin with, I have to be careful of noise. I have three roos, they do normal sounds but barely crow if at all. One I think I have to adjust but he is just audible. The second sounds like a dove if he tries(once every few days), and the third doesn't even try crowing. Definitely worth trying if you can't have them crowing their wonderful songs.
Wait a children’s sock?! Really?!? Omg! Yay! 2 of my silkies are roosters and one started crowing today and I’m so terrified of no crow rooster collars but socks seem like they could stretch enough not to choke. I have some little socks that I bought for my dog that she didn’t like! Yay I’ll try socks for sure!

I just bought 2 inch wide velcro and made my own. It works well on my RIR rooster. He's much quieter and rarely crows. Unfortunately it doesn't work well on my Sebright. I think it's really because he's too small to really get a good fit on. I'm afraid I'm going to pop his head off when I try to tighten it.

I feed my flock crumbles though because I was worried about choking from the collars. I'm not supposed to have roosters at all and so far no one has complained. I'm hoping it stays that way. I ended up with a third rooster and of course he's a little sweetheart and friendly as all get out so I don't want to cull him. I'm trying to find him a new home but so far no takers. When he starts crowing I will try the collar on him and hope it works as well on the Cuckoo Maran as it does the RIR.

I had great success with the one I made. I bought a Velcro that had loop on one side and soft on the other side. I think it's called Velcro strap. I paid like 4$ and have made three collars. Just put one on my Silkie today. The other collar I put on my large Rooster and it's a very muffled hacking crow. Quite funny but he's been great for about two weeks with it. I check it often though for safety.
How did you make the collar?

I used a tie wrap, the kind used by electricians to tie wire bundles together.
I looped the tie wrap loosely around the roosters neck to begin with and gradually tightened the tie wrap until my index finger would just fit next to the roosters neck. It did not stop him trying to crow but it greatly reduced his ability to expand his neck to crow.

I wouldn’t dare to use a tie wrap. I imagine that if your rooster sticks his neck into something, the tie wrap might get tighter and he could get suffocated.

BD,
There's no chance of the tie wrap getting tighter because the end, which is snipped off would have to be pulled to make the loop tighter.

I’m not convinced to use a rooster collar up till now, bc I have been reading some nasty stories about rooster collars. I haven’t read many success stories.

For how long does your rooster wear this tie wrap?

BD,
Our rooster Woody wore his collar for a year and a half, then he was unfortunately kill by a neighbors dog.
