Hello all,
Well, that long awaited day has come- our very first egg ever arrived this morning! Yay! :celebrate
Buuut, it had no shell :(. I found posts about soft shells, thin shells, rubbery shells, but what about no shells? I was not expecting this. Any input on this matter would be very helpful! Should I worry, is there something I should be doing, am I doing something wrong? Everyone is acting happy and healthy. Some background to help you help me maybe: They are 18 weeks old. They just started on layer feed last week. They get greens from the garden, watermelon, blueberries, once in a while I'll give them plain yogurt. Fresh water is always available. They free range about 1/2 the day and the other half they are in their run. I have 3 red sex links and 3 black sex links. No roosters at all.
Thank you all in advance for any knowledge and input you can share with me!!

Unless it's happening all the time the very odd egg held only by its membrane isn't anything to worry about. Do you offer a separate dish of oyster shell grit? Some hens require more calcium than what's available in layer feed so they will supplement themselves by eating what they need of the oyster shell.

Thank you for replying to my post!
This is our very first egg ever, so I guess I will see if it continues. There wasn't even so much as a membrane that I could see, but like I said this is only our first egg so I may not know what I am talking about. No, I am not offering them oyster shell, It was suggested to me that I didn't need to do that, but will be running out now to get some as it seems they may need it. Thank you for your input, much appreciated!
