No eggs and now red tail and wing tip - pics. Thoughts?

It does!! Oh thank goodness - that is a relief to hear :) I stayed up till 3am googling my heart out trying to play chicken doctor, LOL! I sure hope you are right. I counted her first 10 wing feather to see what I could tell there based on the info in the Storey guide. From what I can tell there she hasn't yet lost a single feather. So if it is molting she must be phenomenally slow at it :/ That's OK, though. She has been an invaluable momma to the flock of misfits so I will give her all the time she needs. If not for her protective streak I would have lost all my chicks in the dog attack that claimed 2 other hens and 4 chicks. She herded the rest of the chicks into the coop and defended them. She even defends them against me if she thinks for some reason I am hurting them. Out here in predator land Texas a good guard chicken is worth her weight in gold I think even if she never lays another egg, LOL!

OK, so I got serious today with giving her a full examining. I found redness under her tail and a little on a wing tip. I am posting the pics to see if it helps be sure I am not missing a problem that needs handling.

She looks ok to me. The redness could be from anything, but it doesn't look like something to worry about. If you look at the first pic you posted the feathers on her tail look like pin feathers which means she is molting. It could be that the move triggered a mini molt in her. I believe she'll be fine and laying eggs again in a few weeks. You'll know she's getting ready when her comb gets bigger again.

So yay, I think she is still molting, and her butt is still red - but she is laying again! AND my 2 year old found two new, smaller, darker, pointy eggs today in the coop in a crazy location nowhere near the nesting boxes. So I am pretty sure at least one other hen has finally laid her first egg!
