We got our first chicks on April 16th. We were told they were 6 weeks old. 1 Gold Laced Cochin, 1 Silver Grey Dorking and 1 Welsummer. (We can only have 3 in our downtown neighborhood)

The Cochin started laying at about 23 weeks. She is doing GREAT! The Dorking laid her first egg at 26 weeks on September 3rd. She has since laid 2 good eggs and the rest either soft or no shell. The Welsummer has not laid any eggs to date.

They are all on layer feed and have oyster shell.

Any advice or suggestions???

I know the soft shell and no shell in first layers is just their bodies trying to get with the program. Your other bird that isn't laying may just need more time. I have a buff orpington that JUST layed her first egg today and she is about 7 months old.

It sounds like their just getting used to the eggs coming out and they still need time.Mine laid about 5 softys and then her first hard shell
