No eggs for awhile

We are so confused about our gens. We are getting about 2eggs a day, out of 8hens. We are just now adding artificial lighting because of the cold but it's been horrible.

How old are they? Have they molted?
You're adding light because of the short days, not the cold. The light should be bright enough to read a newspaper by at roost height, slowly increased till you get to about 13 hours or so a day.
What matters to them is increasing light, not necessarily a day length as long as the light period is longer than the dark period by the time your're done.
