No eggs for few days

My chickens are about 18 weeks now. One started laying two weeks ago and then it looked like another got in to the mix. I say this because I found two in one day. I was getting an egg every other day. Then the last few days nothing. When I let them out of the coop yesterday morning, one was sitting on a nest, but there was no egg. What is going on?

I have five hens and they are all sexlinks.

My guess is that they are still getting used to the whole egg laying process. New layers will often be irregular layers for a while.

Another possible reason is that they are being affected by decreasing daylight hours. Ideally, you want layers to have 14 hours of light each day for optimal production.
