No eggs, Heat? alabama 100F

I have mine in shade all day long and run a miser together with fans to keep them cooler. I also dampened the sand in the run for them to sit on, that also helps cool them. Mine are laying fine.

I would be interested in why the "no fruit" as well. Mine just started laying, and are giving me about an egg a day. It's very hot here too. 105 heat index in Kansas. Awful! Come on FALL!

I don't know the why. I read on this website that it tends to decrease laying. I started to experiment. I told a girl at work we both experimented. We gave fruit and laying dropped off we stopped it got normal again. We have done this for months on a schedule. I am laying off the fruit. No pun intended.

Mine seem to be doing OK in the heat. However, a couple of folks in the area who have been keeping chickens longer than me have said they've seen a noticeable drop in egg production the last few weeks. We need to balance out this thread with loud shout of WAR EAGLE and a GO BIG ORANGE!

Mine have quit their perfect laying streak too. I used to get 6-8 eggs a day from the 8 that were laying, now it's down to 1 or 2. I did get 5 yesterday but that was a suprise.

It's been in the low to mid 90's here in central NC but knock on wood, my Gals haven't stopped laying. Yesterday I got 27 big brown ones from our 30 Gold Comets. I've been doing things to try to keep them cool. First, they have a lot of sand in their run so they can take a cool sand bath all day if they want. I keep 2 big 5 gallon waterers filled with cool water and over in the shaded part of the run. And when it gets too hot I go down with my hose and dampen about half of the run and then set the hose sprayer to mist and hang it from a string in the middle of the run. At first they were wary of the spraying and misting but now they seem to enjoy it. They even stand right under the mister which surprises me. But it works for me so I'll pass it along to everyone. Can't hurt...
