No EGGS!!! Is this something im doing wrong?

Hello all.
My family and I have 3 RIR, 3 buff orphingtons, and 3 easter eggers. They are 23 weeks old as of today and still no eggs. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong. any advice is greatly accepted!!

Most likely you just need to be patient. Easter Eggers especially take some time to start laying, and none of those breeds is usually the earliest to lay. For that, you would want Leghorns or some of the production crosses like Production Reds.

They will lay when their bodies are ready. Just like in people, chickens mature at their own rate. 23 weeks is still pretty young, give them some time.

I think I am in the same boat as you are... I have 2 RSL that will be 22 weeks old tomorrow. I have been patiently waiting (and probably worrying too much) on a first egg. Both girls are showing signs of being ready, but just haven't laid anything yet. Combs and wattles are nice and red, they are singing like crazy, and they are squatting. The only thing I haven't checked is for a moist vent. I might add that they all are free range all day long, so I have been check the yard too. Today after I cleaned out the coop I put some yellow plastic eggs (easter eggs) filled with a couple small rocks in their nesting boxes hoping this will encourage them a little. Just yesterday I read an article about hens laying. The article was saying that if a girl hasn't laid by 30 weeks then it probably isn't going to lay at all. I worry about this because I want my girls to lay (we also have one SLW and one Ameraucana who are about to be of laying age). Sometimes they are just late bloomers (as with humans). My chicken guy (the elderly gentalman that we buy our eggs and girls from) keeps encouraging me that it will be any day now.... You might offer them some crushed oyster shells- they are filled with lots of calcium that they need for egg laying and make sure they have plenty of clean water daily and access to it as well. An egg is mainly made up of water and your girls need it. Other then that it's a waiting game especially if you do not have any other girls that are laying yet. It takes them a minute to know what to do from what I have heard- if they are not around any other hen that is laying. I do not have any other girls laying since we just started keeping chickens in June and the girls may just be a little confused about what to do. Just have hope and keep us updated and remember that you are not alone in your boat! I do wish you all the best luck.
