NO EGGS?? Please help....Texas A&M

Yeah, I'm thinking that whoever says "A&M mature and start laying at 6-8 weeks" are the some ones that say they have those legendary 16 oz Quail. Mine were like 12 weeks or older before they laid an egg.

it's funny how we all get past the 6 week mark. normally 10 weeks we see comments on "where are my eggs" we all expected them wayyy sooner. occassionly a thread will pop up of some birds laying at 6 weeks but not as much as i read they are supposed to be. i wouldnt change anything your doing as of now though. keep them on the same feed and in the same groups. eggs will show up when you least expect to see one and you'll miss it while it's laying right in front of your face.

Well, there are very complicated gene patterns in play in most coturnix today my friend. The most worthless gene pattern IMHO is the XLD1 pattern. This gene pattern stunts sexual maturity, and has a side effect of "PERCHING" back scratched feathers, or what ever you like call it. I am currently conducting a "Cull-fest" to remove this gene pattern from my flock. I may secure replacement stock, so all breeders should be willing to swear on a stack of holy books, that no XLD1 genes are in your stock. Just a heads up. Not a WTB.

Don't even get me started on the mobyquail issue

Given the right feed, light, sameness, gene pattern, etc....Coturnix hens should crank out an egg somewhere between 5-8 weeks. Depending on their whim. Interrupting any of that by sameness changes can push that back to any number of weeks. They lay when they are ready, not a moment sooner.

My 28oz. A&Ms started laying when they were 2 weeks old at the ripe weight of 19oz.

My A&Ms stop laying if i move their food to the other side of their pen....The Tibetian and Browns made a four hour drive to my house and I had 6 eggs in the box when they arrived and 6 eggs a day since out of 6 hens...

they need 14-16 hours a day of light when you put additional light on them it will take 2-3 weeks to affect them some bobwhites are resistant to light when they get done laying thier clutch IT IS over

In bold above, that is what I think now when I hear "When do they lay?"
