I am a first-timer at raising birds. I got 18 Corturnix from a woman on Craigslist. I believe 12 are females. She claimed the birds were about 4 weeks and i have had em 2.5 weeks. Been hoping for eggs since Friday, but no luck am i doing something wrong or do i just need to be patient? I feed purina game bird starter 30 percent protein. Plus some dry meal worms and throw some bird seed and oster shells to forage also they pick at vegetation in the flight pen. I have house wrap around the bottom 2 ft of their 10 by 12 ft flight pen plus a 3 by 4 interior on their coop. I feed and water 2 times a day at 130 pm and 430 am since i work a 13 hr second shift. Any thoughts on why i do not get eggs yet? I am located in central wi

Do they get sunlight? I think I would just be patient. When I first got my quail I didn't know the sex. I waited and it wasn't until about 7 or 8 weeks it became obvious who was what. That is also about the time when I got my first egg.

Kinda what i was thinking just wanted to hear others thoughts
I know they can lay without the male but do the males mate with them? This would give you an idea if they have reached maturity. Or at least it gave me the idea with mine that they were reaching maturity and began laying soon.

I have not witnessed mating yet but have noticed a change in their call and seen male gaurding groups of hens.....
