my chickens have not laid for about a week. Not molting or sick. extremely cold weather but have heat lamp in coop. would appreciate any information as I am new to chicken keeping.

How old are these birds? What breeds are they? How long have they been laying prior to this interruption? Any recent changes to feed or flock members (additions or removals)? When was the light added in relation to the stoppage?

Location is northern Washington state. Currently have 2 Delaware Yellow, 3 New Hampshire Red, and 1 Americana all 2 years old. Lost 4 hens to predators before building a fenced in coop about a month ago. Have been using a heat lamp in lower area of coop during freezing weather for 2nd year. Laid fine for first 2 weeks of new coop then just stopped. Eating and drinking well, no change in food. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated as I am new to this.

If it's cold out I wouldn't worry about it.. I have a big drop in egg production when it's cold.. but when it warms back up the egg production picks up.

my understanding is that hot and cold have nothing to do with egg production; rather the length of the sunlight in the day may have more to do with it. That said, this is my first year with chickens and some of my girls started laying over the extremely cold winter we had this year. Not everybody was laying, but a couple started during the cold, and egg production has only picked up in the last two months.
