My 3 girls are almost 17 mos.they have always been good layers. The G.L has been molting for a while now but is finally slowing down.the other 2 lost feather alittle and thats all, they are the blk wyondottes? How long before they will lay again? The blk ones had been laying 1 egg every other day while loosing feathers. The weather has been weird here....very hot n then cool. They get all the needed nutrients, eat, drink n play as normal.Any ideas? Ive red abt egg bound, what is this? How do I check? Wouldnt they have symptoms?Havent seen any snakes.Any help is appreciated. Thanks

I suspect they still need to finish the rest of the molt. That one hen who is still laying is awesome. I've also heard that light timing has something to do with it, though mine have usually continued laying through the summer into late summer.

Just make sure they have layer feed and oyster shell free choice and you shouldn't have issues with egg binding which is usually a calcium/soft shell issue. And watch them. Sometimes they look lethargic and do the "penguin squat". Or they'll just hang about near the nest boxes without being broody, sometimes whitish yellow diarrhea or clinging droppings.
