Trimmed Beaks Wont Stop Egg Eaters.

Test Them... Place An Egg Or 2 In The Pen And Go Away For A While.... When You Return If The Eggs Are Gone You Have A Problem.

Also Dont Get Confused In Your Information Here... Bobs Are Not Stellar Layers. Coturnix Are.

And If You've Recently Acquired Them It May Be Quite Some Time Before They Loosen Up In Their New Environment And Start To Lay At A Decent Rate, Its Still Kinda Early For Them Too... They Are A Late Spring Layer

i just thought it was wierd that when i got them the 3 boxes they where in ea had an egg in it and then i had 2 more eggs 3 days later but then nothing for the past week but ill just wait and see. i figured they werent as good as Coturnix but figured i would have a few by now at least.

Like JJ said, they've probably stopped since they were moved. Just because there were eggs in the boxes, that doesn't mean they were laying. A lot of sellers do that on purpose to make you think the birds are laying. I went to an auction this past Saturday. One cage had a pair of chickens and a blue egg. The hen looked absolutely nothing like an EE, Ameraucana, or Araucana, so I highly doubt she laid a blue egg! I'm sure it was planted by the seller since blue-egg laying hens sell very well in this area.

Dirty tricksters. It is unbelievable the tactics people take. Ah well, real life.

Something very primal in me gets so disgusted with an egg eater. Are there things to be done?

Roll away angle in the floor.

Fake rock eggs tha produce no reward

Trim beak

or ultimately cull.

What do you all do. Seems like when you are in production mode, culling seems the most business like way to get on with "someone" thwarting your progress in the cage. But if you have one who is good stock that is doing it....

I am interested in what our game bird breeders here do if it is good stock pulling this behavior that erks me to my gut.

IT COULD WELL BE THAT THEY ARE IN LAYING MODE... OR WERE, UNTIL THEY GOT MOVED AND STRESSSED OUT. OFTEN TIMES THEY WILL LAY DURING AND IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE STRESS PERIOD... ITS KINDA LIKE THROWING STUFF OVERBOARD TO STAY AFLOAT, IN THAT ITS EASIER TO FLUSH AND ESCAPE DANGER IF YOUR WEIGHTED DOWN WITH A FORMED EGG THATS READY OR ALMOST READY TO GO--- CHUCK IT OVER BOARD SO YOU FLUSH WHEN DANGER COMES

DEPENDING ON WHERE THEY CAME FROM (WEATHER AND LIGHT HOURS) AS OPPOSED TO WHERE THEY ARE NOW (WEATHER AND LIGHT HOURS) THE CHANGES THERE MAY ALSO SHUT THEM DOWN... MY BIRDS HAVE BEEN LAYING FOR 2 MOS NOW THOUGH MANY PARTS OF THE COUNTRY WOULD CONSIDER THEMSELVES LUCKY IF THEY SAW EGGS IN THE NEXT 2 WEEKS

REMEMBER BOBS ARE LIGHT AND TEMPERATURE DEPENDANT FOR EGG PRODUCTION AND REQUIRE MORE INTENSE LIGHT FOR LONGER PERIODS THAN COTURNIX FULL OR BLUE SPECTRUM LIGHT FOR 14-16 HRS CONTINUOUSLY PER DAY

A 1 WAY TRIP TO KAMP KENMORE IS THE ONLY ABSOLUTE CURE

im kind of wondering if it would help if i moved to pen so it would get more light cause i just relized i got it facing west so there shaded for most the day plus we did have a warm front with weather in the 70s for a week followed weather in the 30s the next.
