sorry if this isnt the right area. i just heard that preggo woman shouldnt eat fresh eggs cause they are not pasturized? true false? just wondering because i am waiting to be matched as a surrogate mother and love fresh eggs

No eggs are pasteurized that I'm aware of. Fresh eggs can only be better for you than six week old anemic store bought eggs. Free range eggs are higher in many vitamins and lower in cholesterol than regular eggs you'd buy in the store; that's been proven.

I'm going to vote: false.

Eggs aren't pasturized, even ones from the store. Cooking them properly is what kills any potential bacteria, so I'd give up eating Sunny side up eggs while pregnant, but I wouldn't ever give up eggs altogether. It's been documented that there is a much lower incidence of Salmonella in home grown eggs vs. factory farmed eggs. If you're nervous, have your flock NPIP tested and that should set your mind at ease.

Congrats on your baby!

Make that Mama a great big omelette! Good nutrition = healthier baby & Mama!!!!

Congrats!!!!

false. No eggs are pasturized, otherwise they would be sold cooked. Just don't go licking the dirty egg shells and you will be fine. DO stop cleaning the kitty litter though.

I have actually purchased pasteurized eggs. At least they were labeled as such. I bought them in the grocery store and they were in a clear plastic carton.

By pasturized they mean washed and run under a UV light. Not actually "free of bacteria".

Pasteurization of fresh raw eggs has been perfected. Somehow they slowly heat the eggs to 160*F, and are able to keep it raw. Pretty tricky if you ask me. I'm not sure if they are available everywhere yet, but we use them at work (Hospital). Can't tell them apart from unpasteurized.Only been available here maybe 2 years, and very expensive then. That being said I've not heard of pregnant women not being allowed eggs. Now lunch meat that's a different story.

Imp-If I remember I'll ask the Dietitians tomorrow.

It is the hyper sterile environment that you have to watch out for. Children that don't play outside and get muddy and eat bugs never develop a potent immune system. Or a relationship with the natural world. Both are scary things to deprive children.
