Sorry about your duck. I am sure your friends feel bad enough already. Sometimes dog owners just don't think. I have two and can attest to it personally.

My friends came over today to express their sorrow and condolences for the situation. They were so apologetic that it was... embarrassing. They feel bad...I feel bad... Nobody won that day. It was an unfortunate situation for all involved. I can't blame them for not thinking when they were already devastated by the loss of their dog. A moment of inattention in the face of very trying circumstances resulted in an incident that could test our friendship, but I can't let it. Good friends are too important. I still feel rotten that my duck had to suffer and ultimately die for it, but...

Oh I'm so sorry that is truly terrible! I've had some close calls with dogs too. However I applaud you for thinking about the owners and not charging them.
