Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do. 
Thanks Ingrid for posting the definitions. It is so easy to be led astray when it comes to government's labeling practices. I like the term "Pastured" but if the gov't gets ahold of it, the big producers get in and bastardize what it really means, or at least what I think it means.
Since I have had a hard time candling my brown eggs, I would say..invest in a high intensity candler (http://www.jmtdistributors.com/adjustable-hiintensity-egg-candle.html) I don't know the real quality but I'm expecting it this week and I'll post about it then.
