No Longer Lurking!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Enjoy your retirement. I have been retired from teaching high school science for six years now and love it. I love the name for your farm. I have some Black Australorps in my flock (I've raised them for years), and they are my favorite standard breed; extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets of ours), and the best layers of the standard, brown egg laying breeds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your retirement plans.

Thank you all for the greetings. Mountain peeps that is a nice looking Orp, I like the color. When time comes I may consider adding them too. I have wanted to raise chickens for so long, I think chicken math has hit me before I even begin. I'm going to need a calculator in my coop, or an abacus. I know I have selected brown egg layers, but I came across some olive eggers I think I like too, Marans I think. I do want docile birds though because fiancée is scared of chickens, unless their on her plate. Give her time to adjust. I guess she still sees a T Rex when she looks at them.

Thank you!! They are sure a wonderful breed and I would recommend getting some. And if your financee' is scared then defiantly get them!

First off I would like to welcome you to the BYC. There is so much information on here that nobody could even cover it all, even in 18 months. We would love for you to come to the active buckeye thread here on BYC and introduce yourself there as well. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/803253/the-buckeye-thread/2940#post_14207282
We are an active group of people ranging from newbies, such as yourself, who are just gathering info, all the way to the first ever Grand Master Exhibitor of buckeyes in history. We generally talk buckeyes but occasionally meander into multiple topics. If you have any questions about buckeyes, their origins, history, breeder lists, etc, you will find it. I hope to see you there. Good luck with all the plans you have in store.
