No longer ordering chicks from Stromberg! Rant in post #7!

Being in Alaska I liked the idea of efowl sending my chicks from the closest place to me. efowl is originally in Minn. My chicks came from Colorado. All 16, (one extra, I hope it is not a roo), are doing awesome and efowl has a very high rate of correctness on the sexed chicks. But how am I to complain if a free bird is a roo?.

As a kid in Oklahoma we ordered our fancys from McMurray and there were dead chicks, Chicks with leg and kneck problems. And ALWAYS tons of roos in a batch of hens. If they actually got there. Try getting a check returned.

efowl emailed me on Monday the 16th. to let me know I should contact my local PO, which I did. On Wednesday at noon the Airport PO called and asked us to come get them as they WILL not put chicks on the truck. They actually take them into the bosses office and turn up the heat.

Very interesting info, Matt. I've always been impressed by the photos on Cackle's site, am sad to hear your comments on that.

One thing that's always bothered me about Ideal is the lack of photos of their actual birds... old "poultry art" from the early 20th century and late Victorian era, is not a reliable indicator of what to expect from your hatchery birds. This is something I found out the hard way years ago, when I placed my very first poultry order, using the McMurray catalog.

Aside from Mr. Urch for the special breeder's selection chicks, how does Stromberg source their chicken breeds?

Best - exop

This post t's me off. I ordered 25 blue cochin pullets from STROMBERGS over a month ago. They were to be shipped on the 18th. I finally called them yesterday only to find out that they did not have my blue cochins. They asked if I wanedt to sub another color, (barred and I think black). Told them no, so the girl told me she would let them know at the hatchery. Then she called me and told me they would not ship them to me until August. I asked for a refund. This is my first and last order from them.
Sorry they sold you chicks they didn't have. But you are not alone.
