I'm sure this question has been asked and answered several times over, but I can't seem to find the threads. This morning I discovered a reddish poop in the brooder, and then another later in the morning. This is my first flock, and I did some research and concluded that it was probably shed intestinal lining. However, by 3pm, I noticed several more bloody piles, and the red color was gradually getting darker. I have three 12 day old chicks, and three 4 week old chicks. I noticed 2 of the littler ones were holding their wings slightly out from their body, and looked like they were trying to poop, but not having much luck. One of the four week old chicks wasn't holding his tail up anymore
I'm pretty sure it's Cocci. I had them outside in a small penned area for 1/2 an hour just a few days ago, and we had just finished with 2 days of rain ( I didn't know at the time you could get the bacteria for damp soil ) so I think that's where they contracted it. Now I've witnessed all three of the older chicks poop dark red, and all three of the little ones are still fluffed out oddly. I bleached out the brooder and disinfected their dishes.
The problem is, I have no way to get Corid for them until monday, everywhere is closed on sundays. I'm really REALLY worried about them
I'm pretty sure there's nothing I can give them to combat the bacteria, but is there anything I can give them to make them at least feel a little better?
