No more chickens...

speck,

I learned the hard way. When I was in my 20s I did not handle things very well and the neighbor with whom I had a problem unscrewed the bolts on two of my car wheels. We were almost killed on the freeway.

It's just not worth it in this crazy out-of-control society where people do just the most awful things to each other.

Amberrrr....you know my input on this since I've talked to you about it daily, but its stil horrible. I definitely think you need some Seramas.

My goodness, how can some people be such nasty neighbors (believe me I have mine). Amber I think you made a very adult decision, I know it hurts. I wish you luck and will keep you in my thoughts.

Wow chicabee, that's insane. I think if I did anything extreme I would feel guilty the rest of my life. They were talking about moving but who's to say those neighbors are gonna be any better. I did have silkies, my bantam cochin was actually smaller then them. I'm gonna wait a while if I do decide to get the seramas, they know the chickens are gone so I figure I'm not under suspicion or anything, they won't even notice seramas next year. My neighbor in the back keeps begging me to get a rooster cause she loves to hear them crow, but this is the same lady that illegally burns trash in her backyard so no thanks haha.

Thanks Jordan and Julie, fo sho

Jennifer, Thank you! I agree, I wouldn't even be mad if they just approached me about it instead of sneaking around. I got rid of the ducks and my one pekin I had was 5 years old, I rescued her on a lake as a baby. As hard as that was I did it, I know if there is a problem I rather stay civil between my neigbors cause they may be there for a lonnnnnnnnng time.

The good thing is that someday you will have your own place and your own chickens once again. That may seem like forever away, even for a mature 17 year old, but it's not too far off. In the mean time I hope that you are somehow still able to keep chickens. Maybe they will really move

It's not a guarantee of course, but you never know, the next neighbors may be great neighbors and LOVE chickens!!! Btw...have you checked into the local laws where you are? It almost seems like they are "picking on you" based on a whim, and not an actual law. Especially after the official came out and told them to reconsider(or at least that's what they told you) At any rate, if you're up for it check into your local laws. Best of luck

It seems that if pot bellied pigs are allowed under the zoning code, a few birds kept as pets, not for eggs, could be worked in. The heck with those neighbors. It doesn't sound like anything you do will improve or impair you relationship with them. Don't let them take up any more of your time. If you can work to change the zoning laws, then you've done something to give yourself peace of mind, no matter who's living next door. Moreover, you've left something for posterity. Think of all the happy children who'll be able to enjoy chickens because of you.
