We have 3 young Bantom hens, about 6 to 8 month old. The oldest lays about everyday, the next oldest was laying about 2-3 days but now it's been a week or 2 since she has. She was broody for about 2 days also. Any ideas why she stopped laying?

They may do this or maybe she is just not ready yet. she could also be very stressed or scared and that could also be why she is not laying eggs. Don't really know a ton on this subject just what I have experienced. hope this helped!

Do you think she would lay a few eggs then just stop?

Was she truly broody...sitting on nest all day and nights?
She may have been 'thinking' about it and that may have skewed her egg making system.
She may start back up again in time, hopefully soon.

If it's very hot where you live, that can stop egg laying too.

As long as she seems healthy in every other regard; eating, drinking, pooping, active as normal......you'll just have to wait it out.

Okay, it's been a few weeks, no eggs! Our hen that is a super good layer has stop. They seem healthy, but maybe there comb doesn't seem as red and not as big. Please Help!

So......was she, is she broody? If she's broody she won't lay.
Is it hot where you are?
Do you free range?

They sit in the box for hours but get out for food and to drink, so I don't think it's bloody. It hot here but unseasonably cool, and they were laying when it was over 100. I think it might be because of the weather. We're new to this chicken game so not sure.

If they look healthy. Sitting on nest boxes all day... They are broody.... If they are sneezing, or have other symptoms.... That's what we need to know. Chickens won't lay when broody. Do they let you pick them up. Have you given them a once over?

Do they spend the nights in the nests or roost with the other birds?

A broody hen will sit on the the nest all day and all night except to get up for food and water and to stretch their legs, maybe take a dust bath.
