Our beloved rooster was taken by a predator yesterday morning. He was great with the "girls" and was very gentle and friendly with us. The hens seem lost now. My question is--should we rehome them to a place that has a rooster? Or keep them? They are on the older side but still laying and we only have 3 now since the rest have died from old age.

Sorry to hear about your rooster. :hugs
If you no longer want to have chickens, you should be able to sell them if they are still laying. Or you could look for a free rooster that someone is giving away. They are always available. But I would make sure it is a rooster and not a cockerel and that he is friendly. Lots of people retire their older rooster when they want a new boy to take over the flock because fertility drops.
Good luck.
