I have a hen that is young and recently grew her comb and facial features. She is about 6 months old . She seems to be trying to lay an egg. She goes on the roost and makes quite a verbal commotion. My alpha rooster stands by her side for the duration of these 1 to 2 hour episodes. So far no eggs. Is this behavior normal when a hen first begins to lay? Or could she have some physical problem that I am not aware of? My other hens came to me already laying eggs and they do it effortlessly, however quite vocally. I don't know if this is a warm-up to the real thing or if she might have some obstruction. This has been going on for several weeks. I do not have an avian vet anywhere around here to call. Any information is appreciated and if there is a problem, I will find a vet and get her there. Thanks for any insight you might have about this situation. Inverness Leander
