NO! NO! NO! NO! You bunch of enablers.

I can feel your pain after a few months of reading the posts here I went out Friday and bought a bator and have 6 eggs in it now I cant wait to see what I will get with it being my first attempt but these forums are full of useful information so I feel pretty safe.

Just a technicality.

I have a hen that is young and recently grew her comb and facial features. She is about 6 months old . She seems to be trying to lay an egg. She goes on the roost and makes quite a verbal commotion. My alpha rooster stands by her side for the duration of these 1 to 2 hour episodes. So far no eggs. Is this behavior normal when a hen first begins to lay? Or could she have some physical problem that I am not aware of? My other hens came to me already laying eggs and they do it effortlessly, however quite vocally. I don't know if this is a warm-up to the real thing or if she might have some obstruction. This has been going on for several weeks. I do not have an avian vet anywhere around here to call. Any information is appreciated and if there is a problem, I will find a vet and get her there. Thanks for any insight you might have about this situation. Inverness Leander

Her first egg had abit of blood on it, and was a funny shape, but afterwards, she layed plain simple normal eggs.

Be patient, be patient, my hen only started laying a few months ago, and now she's just over a year old.

Tell us how it goes.

I'm sure she'll be laying in no time.

okay so as much as is warned that the forum is addicting it should be posted on the Incubating and Hatching headline to stay clear if you do not want to become involved with a bator. Now I find myself drawn to the thought that i should find a bator and become a hatchaholic also. However it seems that each persons preferance to which kind of bator is best depends on the person. That said investing in a lg ohovabator is the toss up. so enablers enable and i should have one soon still can't decide.
