I have three Plymouth Rock hens, three smaller unidentified hens, and a Wellsommer Rooster. We were averaging about three eggs a day and it was the Plymouth that were laying because the others are too small. Then one of our Plymouth started brooding. She went off into the woods and came back several weeks later with one baby chick. Meanwhile, the other two Plymouth decided that they no longer wanted to live in the chicken coop they moved into the turkey pen. I was concerned about that because we did not have any laying boxes in there. In addition to that, we had a really bad rain that flooded the area where our chicken tractor was so I got my husband to move it over to a grassier area about 75 yards from the original spot. When we did that the three smaller chickens and the rooster refused to go back to the coop, and they also moved into the turkey enclosure. The turkeys do not seem to mind and everyone is getting along fine but no one is laying. We even put new boxes in the turkey enclosure in the hopes that they would start laying again. We tried to physically catch them and make them stay in the chicken coop for about four days, but they refuse to return there at night. They will hang out all day long, but when night falls they run to the turkey pen. We have got baby chick and mom in the coop until he gets larger, but will they ever lay again?
