I have no patience and this is killing me!!!!!
4 days ago my first batch of quail hatched. They were shipped eggs and of the 15 that made it to the hatcher 14 hatched.

Last night my second batch of quail started hatching. I now have 27 out of 80+.
Why are the others taking so long or do I have a bunch that will not hatch.

The only difference between these 80 and the other 20 is the 80 were in cartons.

Should I take the other (third batch) 80 out of the cartons?

I've never used cartons, so I can't really say on that. There are many people that swear by it though.

But whenever I have had large hatches (40+), they have always taken days to hatch, literally. I had a set once that was a little over 100 eggs. From start to finish the hatch was 5 days, no joke. Just take the babies out when they are 12-24 hours old, but be sure to check as good as you can for pips first. I don't know if it has to do with the eggs being older or what, that many eggs would take a while to collect unless the seller had a ton of birds!

The seller walked through and collected almost 1/2 of them when we got there. He says he collects 3-4 times a day. Impressive set up.

That makes me feel so much better about the hatch time...

I will try to ignore the hatcher until morning now....

I also went ahead and pulled all the eggs out of the cartons. I will go back to rolling them a number of times a day now.
