It was in the coop this morning but I nearly walked past it thinking it was a dirty rock they had dragged in!

Congrats! What breed do you have that lays that color of egg? Or is it just dirty?

It's a cayuga egg. They lay dark eggs at the start of the season and gradually they fade. Couldn't bring myself to have it in my omelette this morning though!

I have heard they lay dark eggs........but this looks like a ROCK!

That is so strange looking! I think you need to blow it out and keep the shell!!!!!!!

You must have a Cayuga.

It's just the egg shell color. The egg inside is just an egg. No reason to not eat it. Except that the egg is cool to show around.
